Gauging station at Udiam |
Background The Rother is a catchment of 206 km2. Whilst the flow record at Udiam is fairly complete there are a number of gaps. In addition whilst the new gauging structure is believed to give accurate flow measurements the accuracy of the earlier part of the record is less certain. |
||||||||
Scope of work by Water Resource Associates Ltd Flow data were collected for the Rother at Udiam and two upstream flow gauging stations. Data were also collected on precipitation and PET. HYSIM was calibrated to the Rother as three sub-catchments and to the Rother as single basin. Due to quality considerations in the flow record it was found that it was necessary to use two calibrations of the model, one based on the early period for high flow and one based on the later period for low flowss. The two long-term simulations thus produced were combined with the observed flow to create a consistent long-term flow record. |

Results The quality of flow measurement at this site has been the subject of previous studies. This study enabled a clear indication of the quality of flow for different periods to be provided to the Client. As a result of the study the Client now has a consistent long-term flow record. A copy of HYSIM was also provided to the EA, Southern Region. |
