Background

As part of the multi-lateral track of the Middle-East Peace Process, a Working Group on Water Resources has been established. Under the aegis of this group, a committee (known as the Executive Action Team - EXACT) to co-ordinate the activities related to water data has been established with the participation of the Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian Core Parties and of donors. One of the Directors of WRA has participated in all relevant activities of the Water Resources Working Group and EXACT since 1994.

Scope of work by Water Resource Associates Ltd

The Company initially prepared and supervised a € 3 million project aimed at improving the measurement, processing and quality control of water data (meteorology, surface water, groundwater and quality). The Terms of Reference were drafted and discussed with the Core Parties. Within the tender process WRA participated in the evaluation of tenders. During project execution three directors of WRA took part in the supervision of the project. WRA also set up and supervised a further € 4 000 000 project for waste water re-use.

Results

Under the first European Union financed component the Core Parties have agreed to common standards for field measurement of hydrometeorological, surface water and groundwater and water quality variables. Under the second project a Decision Support system has been developed to facilitate the re-use of waste-water. This project included enhancing data bases and a water quality base-line survey.
